"An odd slushing humm buzzed from nearby."
I dunno, that could've been italicized, but I've been reading too much Stephen King. The other:
"The deafening roar of machine gun fire and blaring 'enginge' was enough to put everyone on edge."
Hope that helps.

Oh, and yet again I have managed to work this series in with Homeworlds somewhat. You'll see when you read this, and Homeworlds is over. You'll see. I'll let you guess as to how Homeworlds ends now.

Engine, yea, sorry for that. As for the humm, it could be either way. I'm not sure really. I probably should have italicized that, but o well. I didn't in the second part either. No biggy though. I hope. *Glances around timidly.*

I noticed something interesting today. Brutes aren't the ceremonial royal guard. Because in FS, it said that the ceremonial guard elites had never seen a brute that close to a prophet before. Thus implying that they are evidently not commonly their guards. What do you guys think?

What was the error CoLd?
As for the italicizing, I'm pretty sure there wasn't anything that needed it. If it's the welcome wagon, then no, that isn't the name of the vehicle. They just refer to it as such.

Nice, just had time to read this. Really, really good. Were the Flood by any chance coming from Halo 07? ;)
I only spotted one error near the end, and something which should've been in italics... possibly.
(See, we should do a Flood series together!) :P

Technically though, 'hostile biological organism' could be correct.
Supposing I used the following definition for the word biological, it would be appropriate.
Of, relating to, caused by, or affecting life or living organisms.
'Hostile related to life or living organisms.'
But I liked my way better, so I used it. :P

I've already come up with how they got to the planet, it's in part two. I think you'll like it.
As for what time period it is, that's still in the air for now. I have two possible time periods I could set it in, I'm still working on the kinks in that.

a '' hostile biological organism''? well, if its biological then it is an organism, and if its an organism then it biological. so ''hostile organisms'' would do. maybe add ''PARASITIC'' as well? and please explain how the flood got there. how bout ''hideous monsters''? and was this before or during the human-covenant war?

I liked both 28 Days Later and Dawn of the Dead. I felt, as I played the flood, that they had similar tendencies to the zombies in those movies in their combat form state. So I used them somewhat to that effect. I'm writing the second half now. Hope you like it as much as this one. I'm sure you will though.

LOL
Yea, Nick and Jessica. So sue me. I like that show because she's so stupid it's funny. And it is similar to Dawn of the Dead, but it's all good because that movie kicked some hard ass.
Nick is better than what I originally had planned to name him: Franklin

Oh yea, and as for the influx of Flood stories; you're right.
I'm not a huge fan of the flood myself, but they can make a hell of a good enemy.

Well, I tried to make it where the civilians had never seen the Flood before. But to tell the truth, neither did many of the marines.
As for suspense, I borrowed somewhat from some of my favorite movies, and did my own twist on 'em. Sorta.
Anyway, I'm glad you guys like it. The next part will hopefully be even better.

AAAAHHHH! The Flood have taken over the FF section! Has anyone else noticed that? A bunch of stories are about the Flood. The story was great, the right amount of detail mixed with a good amount of suspense.
Silver Spartan--This isn't the first civilian P.O.V. I think the first was Civilian Assault.

Wooo, what a start! This rocks; the suspense, the tactful introduction to the Flood, the civilian's reactions, the story in general, it's all good quality stuff, but I'm not entirely surprised, given the author ;)
